A 30-year-old youth was killed after falling from a crowded running train in between Uluberia and Fuleswar stations in Howrah on Sunday morning.
Police said the victim, Gour Biswas, was a resident of Kulgachia in Howrah. He had boarded the Howrah station bound Midnapore local along with his mother and father from Kulgachia station. They were supposed to go to Chengail.
Police came to know from the people who had witnessed the incident that all the compartments of the train were completely packed. He had somehow managed to stand at the gate after pushing his parents inside.
Major portion of his body was out of the compartment. He fell after being hit against a pole when the train was crossing Latibpur Bridge. He fell on the road under the bridge and died on spot. His body was sent for an autopsy in Uluberia Hospital.
Local people claimed that all the compartments were completely packed despite the day being a Sunday. The situation was such that many people didn't attempt to get into the train considering that it may lead to an accident.
But Gour was in a hurry and had to reach his destination along with his parents on time. Thus, he took the risk and somehow managed to send his parents.
If there had been another set of trains connecting Howrah, then the accident would have been averted.
Some local people said that Gour had no option other than risking his life as his parents had already got into the train.
A pall of gloom descended when local people came to know that he died in a train accident. The police have initiated a probe in this connection.
