Bebapriya Mitra, a male patient from Kasba was admitted to the Apollo Gleneagles Hospital in February with respiratory distress. The family members alleged that the hospital authorities did not mention any package for the treatment. After primary check-up, when the family members asked them about the cost of treatment, they did not say anything about the approximate cost of the treatment. The hospital authorities told the patient's family that it would take around two days to for the patient to heal. Later, after the patient insisted on the package, the hospital told them that it would cost them around Rs 44,000 for various clinical tests.

He alleged that at around 10 pm on the day of his admission at the hospital he was given a sleeping pill. On February 24, the very next day he was released from the hospital and asked to pay Rs 44,000. He also saw that he was mentioned as a female patient in the bill as a result of which the medical insurance company denied to provide him insurance coverage.

He also alleged that the hospital authorities did not answer to his queries despite of his repeated pleas. After finding no way, the patient decided to lodge a complaint with the state Health department.
