A housewife committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan at her parental house at Talit village in East Burdwan district on Wednesday.
The family members of the victim, Jinatun Firduas, found her body hanging from the ceiling fan. They sent the victim to the Burdwan Medical College and Hospital where the victim was declared brought dead.
The victim had been staying at her parental house for the past few days as she had been subjected to both mental and physical torture at her in-laws house. Police said that the victim was eight months pregnant. On the basis of the victim's family members, the police have arrested the victim's husband, father-in-law.
The victim's husband Mansur Ali used to run a grocery shop in the locality. The victim got married to Mansur Ali from the Simdal village situated in the nearby area from the residence of the victim.
The family members of the victim alleged that she had been tortured at her in-laws house as the victim's father failed to provide the money as demanded by the accused's family. It has been alleged that the housewife's husband used to torture the victim. He used to mount tremendous pressure on the victim to bring money from her parental house.
