Mystery shrouds the death of a 40-year-old man whose body was found hanging from an iron gate at the rabies ward of the Belighata ID Hospital on Tuesday.
The victim Ersad Ali, resident of Metiabruz was admitted to the hospital on Monday. At around 6.30 am on Tuesday, some of the staff members of the hospital found the victim hanging from a bed sheet from an iron rod inside the rabies ward of the hospital. They rescued the victim but the doctors announced him dead. The incident triggered tension among the other patients of the hospital.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the victim might have committed suicide as he had been suffering from depression.
Police have started a case of unnatural death in this connection. They are probing the incident. The family members of the victim are being interrogated by the police. The investigating officer also interrogated some of the staff members of the hospital in this connection. Some of the patients who were admitted in the same ward reportedly told the police that the victim was seen restlessly roaming inside the ward till late on Monday night but they never expected that the middle-aged man would commit suicide. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination and police are waiting for the report.
