The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested three senior officials of the United Bank of India (UBI) for their alleged involvement in forging some bank guarantee papers against which loans were taken by some businessmen from the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC).

Some businessmen got loans of Rs 173 crore from the NSIC against bank guarantee papers issued by the UBI. When the NSIC officials went to bank with the bank guarantee papers, some of its officials told them that the papers were forged and they were issued by the bank. This had prompted the NSIC officials to lodge a complaint with the Bidhannagar police station on the basis of which the police started a case. The NSIC officials issued the loans on the basis of the bank guarantees which eventually turned out to be forged. The case was handed over to the CID sensing the seriousness of the crime. The police have found that some of the bank officials were also involved in the incident and finally arrested them in this connection. The investigating officer suspects that the businessmen in connivance with some of the bank officials committed the crime. The CID earlier had arrested three businessmen and three NSCI officials in this connection too. They came to know about the involvement of some of the bank officials and started an investigation.

The accused are Kedarnath Prusty, Manik Mohan Mishra and Prodip Kr Gangopadhyay who have been arrested by the CID.
