Police arrested another fake MBBS doctor from Bagula in Nadia on Sunday night.
Cops said the fake doctor, Bapi Nath, was remanded to judicial custody after being produced before the Ranaghat Sub-divisional Court on Monday.
Investigating Officers from Hanskhali police station went to a clinic at Bagula after a complaint was lodged by a local woman alleging that the doctor's MBBS degree was fake. Bapi is a resident of Bongaon in North 24-Parganas.
Police initially detained him and took him to the police station where his certificates were examined. It was found that he did not have an MBBS degree.
He used to claim himself to be an MBBS doctor after passing out from an Ayurved college.
He also used to say that he was a diploma holder of alternative medicine. But he used to prescribe allopathic and herbal medicines to his patients.
For some reason, the woman, who took her son to Bapi on Sunday, found his behaviour suspicious. So she went to the police and sought their intervention.
The cops later also spoke to local residents of the area and took their statement. The locals told the police that Bapi had been practising in the clinic for the past few years and at least 10 to 15 patients used to visit his chamber.
It may be mentioned that so far three fake doctors were arrested from Nadia district in the past one month.
After the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested a few fake doctors from different parts of the state including Kolkata, common people have started providing information to the police.
A senior police officer said that people should inform them as soon as they come to know that there is a doctor practising with fake certificates. The cops will initiate immediate action.
