Biman urges Bhangar to carry on agitation, courts controversy

Update: 2017-06-25 18:00 GMT
Controversy sparked off as Left Front chairman Biman Bose urged people to carry on with the agitation in Bhangar.

This comes at the time when Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had said that "some outsiders" including the Maoists were instigating local villagers to create trouble in the area. Local people were misdirected into thinking that foetuses in women's wombs and crops would get damaged due to laying of electric wires, which was needed for setting up of the power grid sub-station.

It may be mentioned that the work of the power grid sub-station at Bhangar in South 24 Parganas came to a standstill a few months ago came following protests of villagers after being instigated by some outsiders.

Bose on Sunday went to distribute clothes among people in Bhangar and said: "I will expect that you will intensify your fight for your rights."

According to political analysts, such comments might deteriorate the situation in the area when the state government is leaving no stone unturned to make the situation normal in Bhangar.

Local people are, however, are not riled up by such statements.

During her visit at Bhojerhaat near Bhangar on June 12, the Chief Minister had urged the people to throw the Maoists out of the villages.
