Pregnant woman beaten to death by in-laws, case lodged

A pregnant woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband at her in-laws' house at Kultali in South 24 Parganas on Thursday.

The incident triggered tension in the area after the incident came to light. The victim has been identified as one Farida Seikh (30). The accused and his family members have been absconding since the incident took place.
Police said that Farida got married to one Aklesh Rahaman, a resident of Sekikhpara under Kultali police station 10 years ago. The family members of the victim alleged that the woman had been subjected to both mental and physical torture by her husband and in-laws at the latter's house. They also alleged that her husband often used to return home in an inebriated state from his workplace and used to inflict injuries on her.

The victim's family members alleged that she was beaten up by her husband and in-laws. They later dumped the body of the woman in front of the Canning Sub-divisional hospital. The local people found her lying on the road with some injuries on her body and took her to the emergency department where doctors declared her brought dead. 

The body has been sent for the post-mortem examination. The neighbours said that the accused did not even spare her after she became pregnant. The woman used to protest against her husband as he had tortured her in a drunken state. Farida had informed the matter to her family members. But they did not take any legal action as the woman wanted to check her 

husband by staying together at her in-laws' house. But her family members did not expect that she would be murdered at her in-laws' house in this manner.

The family members of the victim alleged that the police were initially reluctant to receive a complaint in this regard but finally they had to register the complaint following pressure from the family members and local people. On the basis of the compliant, police are conducting raids to nab the culprits who are currently at large.
