CESC pegs city's highest power demand on Monday at 2,159 MW

The Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC) achieved a new record of power demand in Kolkata on Monday. The power demand of the city was recorded at 2,159 Mega Watt which was highest-ever in CESC.
"The maximum demand of 2,159 Mega Watt was the highest-ever in CESC on Monday. This was met by supplies from Budge Budge, Haldia and Southern Generating Stations," said a spokesperson.

Giving further details, the CESC spokesman said: "The highest-ever demand at 3.30 pm on Monday in Kolkata was when the city was experiencing summer heat of 37 degrees Celsius. However, by 12 midnight, the demand gradually came down to 1,340 MW and temperature to 24.8 degrees Celsius."

It may be mentioned that the power demand was 2,113 Mega Watt on May 23 and 2,106 Mega Watt on May 22. Between June 10 and 19, CESC customers consumed 370 million units. "On Monday, Kolkata citizens in CESC area consumed 39 million units," the spokesperson added.

Earlier, it was recorded that CESC areas consumed 268 million units of power during the first seven days of June. The officials said that was one of the highest in the recent times.

The Kolkata-based company of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group has been serving 567 square kilometre of area under the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) and in parts of Howrah, Hooghly and North and South 24 Parganas.

The company serves three million consumers approximately which includes domestic, industrial and commercial users.
