Mystery shrouds the death of a 65-year-old man whose body was found inside his flat on Ballygunge Terrace in South Kolkata on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the victim, Prabir Das, was staying alone in his flat for the past few days as his wife was out of town for some work and his daughter stays in Mumbai.

On Tuesday afternoon at around 1.30 pm, the domestic help of the housefound the door of the flat locked from inside. No one was responding despite her repeated knocks on the door. The victim used to stay in the flat situated in the ground floor of the building.

Finding no other way out the domestic help went to the other residents of the flat housed on the first floor of the building. There was another key of the victim's flat with his neighbours on the first floor flat.

The domestic help took the key and opened the door to find Prabir lying in a pool of blood on the floor of the drawing room.

Locals went to the spot hearing her cries for help and they called the police. Policemen from the nearest police station rushed to the spot and sent the body to hospital where he was declared brought dead.

A police officer said that they found a cut injury on his forehead which led to all suspicion. The police have sent the body for an autopsy.

The cop said that the exact reason behind his death could be ascertained only after receiving the postmortem report.

Though it doesn't seem to be a case of murder, the police are not ruling out any possibility till they come to a conclusion after a proper probe of the case.

The door of the flat was locked from inside and nothing had gone missing from the victim's apartment. It minimises the possibility of murder. When asked about the cut mark on his forehead, the officer said the victim might have received the injury when he fell down.

After speaking to the victim's relatives, the police came to know that he had developed paralysis after a cerebral stroke. So he
had to use a walking stick as support.

Preliminary investigation revealed that he was not well lately and was too weak to walk properly. He might have fallen down as he was too weak and received injuries on his forehead.
Excessive bleeding might have led to his death but it can be ascertained only after the post-mortem report is received.
