Two persons were killed after being electrocuted at Ekbalpore on Monday night.
The victims have been identified as Mohammed Ali Roza and Mohammed Abdul Nazim. They were walking along the Dent Mission Road where a electric wire was lying in the water accumulated following the rain on late Monday evening after thundershower hit the city.
The local people said that an electric wire somehow snapped from the CESC transformer and fell into the accumulated water. None of the local residents spotted the electrical wire lying in the water during the night. As the victims touched the water, they were electrocuted. The local residents informed the matter to the CESC officials and the local police station.
The members of the state disaster management unit and the fire brigade officials rushed to the spot along with the police. The two injured victims were taken to the SSKM Hospital where the doctors pronounced them brought dead.
The local residents alleged that the CESC officials reached the spot late. Had they reached the place on time, the victims could have been saved. The police have, however, started a probe in this regard.
The thundershower that lashed some parts of the state on Monday night also claimed another life when a boat capsized in Raimangal River under Sunderbans Coastal police station in South 24 Parganas. The victim, Dinabandhu Sarkar (48) was travelling in a boat along with some others when the boat capsized.
According to a local resident, another person also drowned in the river and went missing. The district police are yet to confirm this. Sarkar went missing after he drowned in the river.
The local people started a searching operation and later recovered the body from the river on early Tuesday morning.
The victim was a resident of Lahiripur under the Sunderbans costal police station. The local people have alleged that the boat was carrying various materials along with the passengers. Police have started a probe.
