Two TMC workers shot at by miscreants in Birbhum

Tension ran high at Aligarh village and Nanur in Birbhum after two Trinamool Congress activists were shot at by miscreants. One victim succumbed to his injuries in the hospital while the other is undergoing treatment with critical bullet injuries.

In the first incident at Aligarh village, on Monday morning a Trinamool Congress activist was shot dead by some miscreants following a clash over Adivasi Samabay Samiti elections. The victim, Balaram Mondal was rushed to the hospital by the local people with serious bullet injuries in his body and succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

Police said that the victim had received bullet injury when some miscreants shot at him following a clash between two groups over the election. Police are yet to identify the accused who shot at the victim.

Senior Trinamool Congress leaders in the district alleged that some BJP leaders brought the miscreants from Jharkhand to create a trouble in the election. The BJP-backed goons also used bombs that they had brought from Jharkhand. The incident created tension among the local residents.

Agitated mob set some motorcycles on fire which were parked in the area. A huge contingent of police force rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Police have started a detailed probe in this regard and are conducting raids to nab the culprits.

In a separate incident, another Trinamool Congress activist identified as Debabrata Ghosh was shot at from point blank range by some unidentified miscreants. He was returning home on his motorcycle when the miscreants stopped his way and shot at him. 

Attracted by the sound of gunshots, locals rushed to the spot and rescued the injured person who was lying in a pool of blood. He was taken to the Bolpur sub-divisional hospital where he has been battling for his life.

Police reached the spot and stared an investigation in this regard. They are yet to ascertain the motive behind the attack and are conducting raids to nab the culprits.
