2 killed in separate road mishaps

A biker was killed in a road accident while he was riding with head phones on. Another person was also killed in a separate road accident in the state on Sunday.  

The first incident occurred in Howrah's Uluberia area where a biker was crushed under the wheels of a speeding truck. The incident took place at around 5 am on Sunday near the Narendra More area of Uluberia on National Highway 6. The victim has been identified as Seikh Saharab. Police said that the victim did not hear the horn of the approaching truck as he had his headphones plugged in. As a result of which the victim came under the wheels of the truck while trying to ride to another side of the road. The victim was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

After being informed the police rushed to the spot and removed the body from the accident site. 

The accident led to a huge traffic jam in the area. Police sent the body for the post-mortem. According to the police, Seikh, who was a business material supplier, went along with his son to Kashmali area of Uluberia on his motorcycle for weighing stone chips. While returning, his son Asadul Saharab was in a truck which was carrying stone chips while the victim was riding his motorcycle.

Eyewitnesses told the police that the driver of the errant truck blew the horn but the victim could not hear it. When he suddenly took a right turn to cross the road, the truck driver could not control the vehicle and ran over him. The driver of the truck fled the spot immediately after the accident.

In a separate incident, a fisherman was killed after getting hit by a truck near Barjora on Durgapur-Bankura state highway on Sunday morning. The victim has been identified as Baul Khara. The local residents rescued the injured victim and rushed to a nearby hospital with critical injuries where the doctors pronounced him brought dead. The driver fled leaving the vehicle at the place of the accident. Police are conducting raids to nab both the drivers.
