According to the CBI, the Colonel was posted at the Eastern Command of the Indian Army in Kolkata. CBI had registered a case against the Colonel and three others including the Managing Director, Director and a representative of a Pune-based private company in Kolkata under a section of criminal conspiracy (120B IPC) and several sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

It was alleged that the Colonel had demanded a bribe of Rs 1.80 lakh from the managing director of the private company. The company had received an order to supply Power Pack Rock Splitters.

He had accepted a bribe of Rs 1 lakh in two phases. He had allegedly received Rs 50,000 in February and again another installment of Rs 50,000 was given to him by the company in the past few days.

Acting on a tip-off, the CBI officers followed the director of the private company and arrested the Colonel when the former went to his residence to give him the bribe. The director of the company came to Kolkata from Pune to give the money to the Colonel. The CBI officers searched the Colonel's residence and recovered the money.
