A clash broke out between two groups of inmates in Dum Dum Central Correctional Home on Tuesday.

Sources said 13 inmates were injured during the clash and were provided with necessary treatment in the hospital inside the correctional home.

It is learnt that the clash broke out over standing in a queue to collect food. The clash took place between under-trail prisoners and those who are convicts. Wardens and senior officers in the correctional home intervened and brought the situation under control. They took the injured inmates to the hospital where they were provided necessary treatment. Local police were also being informed. Policemen from the local police station went to the spot and found family members of the inmates creating a chaos outside the correctional home.

They made them understand that the situation inside the correctional home was normal and there was nothing to worry about. The police suspect that old rivalry between the inmates led to the clash following an altercation on Tuesday morning. The correctional home authorities are trying to find out the exact reason that led to the incident. They are also taking necessary steps to avoid repetition of such incidents in the future.

It is learnt that cells of the inmates have been changed and wardens are keeping watch on each and every inmate.
