National Medical College plunges into darkness for half-an-hour

The Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital (CNMCH) on Monday was plunged into darkness on Monday morning affecting the services in the hospital.

The power went off at the hospital at around 11.30 am and the hospital remained in darkness for nearly half-an-hour causing serious inconveniences to the patients.

The surgeries which were scheduled to take place during that time had to be postponed. Normal functioning of the out-patient departments were also hampered due to the power cut.

Some of the staff members of the hospital alleged that a few months ago there was a similar incident of power failure in the hospital due to some technical glitches in the meter box of the hospital.
But adequate steps were not taken to check such incidents, alleged the staff members of the hospital.

They also alleged that incidents of power cut have been taking place repeatedly due to the poor maintenance of the aforementioned meter box.

Senior officials of the hospital, however, refused to accept that there was a problem in the meter box.

The official also said that the power cut hardly had any impact on the services of the hospital as the hospital generator managed to supply the power during the period of loadshedding.

The official said that services were restored within few minutes in every department. The hospital authorities were looking into the matter to ascertain the cause of the loadshedding.
