Mystery shrouds the death of a Trinamool Congress leader whose body was found in Sultanpur village under Nalhati police station in Birbhum.
Police suspect that some miscreants murdered the victim and dumped his body in the jungle area. The incident triggered tension on Monday morning when some local residents spotted the body of the victim, Sankar Mal (25).
After being informed the police reached the spot and recovered the body. According to the police, there were several injury marks on his body. A deep injury mark which was there around his neck which suggests that the victim might have been throttled to death. Police said that the miscreants hit him on his face with a heavy object. Police also recovered a cycle chain from the near his body.
The body was sent for the post-mortem. The family members of the victim said that the victim was a leader of the workers' union of the Trinamool Congress in the area. On Sunday night, the victim had left home with some of his associates but did not return home. They received the news of his death from some local residents. The family members also alleged that the victim had a quarrel with some people over the distribution of wages. Police are investigating the incident. Police also came to know that there was a quarrel in his family over some issues. Police are also trying to ascertain if any past rivalry had led to the murder.
