In a bizarre incident, some villagers shaved off a woman's head and paraded her in the area after she developed an extra-marital relationship with a local youth.
It has also been alleged that some of the locals even molested her. The incident occurred at Dakshinchandra village under Namkhana police station in South 24 Parganas.
The victim's family members lodged a police compliant at the local police station on the basis of which a probe has been initiated. The main accused in the incident has been at large since the incident took place.
Police said the victim's husband is a fisherman and as a result of this he used to stay out most of the time. Some of the locals alleged that the woman developed an illicit relationship with a resident of the same area which did not go down well with the villagers and they hatched a plan to teach her a lesson.
On Wednesday morning, some of the locals including a few women caught the victim, abused her. She was also beaten up by them and was stripped off her clothes. There were several onlookers who did not even raise a voice. The accused shaved the woman's head and paraded her in the locality only because she was into an extra-marital relationship.
The family members of the victim also alleged that some of the accused captured photographs of the victim when she was stripped off. They also threatened to circulate the pictures on the Internet. The victim's son lodged a complaint with the local police
station and the cops have started a specific case in this regard and are conducting raids to nab the accused.
