In a tragic incident, a youth committed suicide by throwing himself in front of a moving train.
The incident occurred at Beldanga station at around 8 am on Sunday, triggering tension among local residents. The victim, Pratap Ghosh, a resident of Dohalia area of Kandi in Murshidabad came to Beldanga railway station at around 7 am and was loitering aimlessly, witnesses told the police.
Ghosh had been waiting at the station for nearly an hour when he jumped in front of the Sealdah-bound Lalgola local just as it was entering the station. Local people informed the matter to the railway police, who rushed to the spot and removed the body. The body was sent to the Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.
Police found a suicide note in his pocket which claimed that the victim had been under tremendous stress following a prolonged quarrel with his wife. Police suspect that, as their financial condition was not good, the couple often quarrelled over various issues. Neighbours also told the police that they often heard the couple quarreling over various issues. They had engaged in such a quarrel on Saturday.
On Sunday morning, the victim left the house without saying anything to his wife. He went straight to the station and committed suicide by throwing himself in front of a moving train. Police have started a probe in this regard.
