In view of a number of fake doctors being arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for practicing allegedly with forged registration certificates (RCs), the West Bengal Medical Council (WBMC) has decided to verify the registration certificate of doctors in both government and private establishments. WBMC will soon ask the doctors to submit their registration certificates to the council's office and examine these.
The WBMC also urged people to report it to the council if they find anything suspicious in the whereabouts of a doctor. The WBMC, in turn, will send a copy of the complaint to the CID. The WBMC will soon issue a notice in this regard. The WBMC is planning to check the registration certificates of every doctor every five years.
The doctors will also have to submit the photocopies of their various degrees, be it undergraduate of diploma. Many private hospitals in the state have already asked their doctors to get the process of verification done as early as possible. According to a senior official of the WBMC it is suspected there may be some more fake doctors who have been practicing with a forged document. The CID has come up with a fact that there were at least 500 fake doctors practicing in the state. The whole process of scrutinizing the registration of doctors will be started soon and the matter would be strongly dealt, a senior official of the WBMC said.
The CID has already arrested a number of fake doctors from various parts of the state including some who were practicing in some of the top private hospitals in the state. WBMC has also urged the doctors coming from different states to have their registration done from the state medical council unless they would not be allowed to practice in the state. IMA has also instructed all its state branches to report it to the police if they receive any complaints against any particular doctors.
