Those days are long gone when the fairer sex used to be considered weak, thus leading to exploitation of women in several ways.

Now, women have not only been able to overcome the stigma through various means, they have also outperfomed their male counterparts in many ways.

In the past 48 hours, the results of four board examinations have been announced where three girls topped the list while one secured the second position. This has happened at a time when both Centre and the state government are focussing on women empowerment.

Anwesa Pyne, a girl from Bengal's Bankura district topped the Madhyamik examination this year. On Saturday, many people were surprised to hear Anwesa's name being announced by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE). No girl topped the list of Madhyamik examination in the recent past before Anwesa.

On Sunday, a Noida girl, Raksha Gopal surprised the country to become the first girl across the country in CBSE 12th standard examination obtaining 99.6 percent in Arts. Raksha Gopal scored 100 marks each in English, Political Science, and Economics, and 99 each in History and Psychology, which surprised many people.

On Monday, CISCE board declared ICSE results 2017 (Class X) and ISC results (Class XII) 2017 on its website. Ananya Maity, a Kolkata girl and a student Heritage School topped the chart in ISC securing 99.5 percent. Another Kolkata girl, Debashree Paul, a student of Auxilium Convent School Barasat, stood second in ICSE in the country.

"It is really heartwarming for us to see that girls are getting the top ranks in examinations conducted across India and Bengal. I am personally happy for Anwesa Pyne, the Bankura girl who topped in Madhyamik. She hails from a village where she did not get study materials, advance coaching. She only depended on her own capability," said a senior school teacher. The performances of girls in this year's Madhyamik were also fairly good and WBBSE had enrolled greater number of female candidates than males. The number of female candidates in this year's Madhyamik was 5,87,654. The number of male candidates was 4,73,469. The numbers indicate that female examinees are 10.76 percent higher than the male examinees.
