The local residents and daily passengers were shocked to witness a drum full of bombs kept just beside Katwa railway station on Monday morning.
Scared at the sight, the passengers started running away from the spot. The shopkeepers in the station premises also abandoned their shops.
The eyewitnesses of the incident said that the drum was kept just beside the railway station near a pond. But the bombs in the drums were clearly visible from the platform. The passengers saw the drum and quickly vacated the platform.
The officers of Government Railway Police (GRP) soon reached the spot and saw a drum full of bombs. "But most of the bombs were already deactivated and soggy with water," a police officer said.
Meanwhile, the GRP started an investigation in the case. The officers suspected that some local criminals kept the bombs just beside a land of railway station and were waiting to get the opportunity to take them to another place.
"It was raining here on Sunday night which made those bombs get soaked thus deactivating them. So, no person was seen to take these bombs from there," the officer said.
Meanwhile, the passengers and shopkeepers demanded better safety measures for the station.
