Harindra Rao, the newly-appointed general manager of Eastern Railway on Thursday said that coordination among the departments was absolutely necessary to provide better services to the passengers.
Rao on Thursday held a high-level meeting with the principal heads of the departments and divisional railway managers on Thursday morning. He reviewed the performance of various departments in detail.
Rao said that the railway working is complex in nature and every department must have better coordination for smooth functioning of the railway system. The basic purpose of Railways is transportation of man and materials for which cooperation of all departments is required.
Maintenance of assets, rolling stocks, manpower planning and financial management etc are very important. He asked all concerned, particularly DRMs, to ensure safety as their top priority. He urged the officials to take up safety issue seriously and advised them to not compromise for any violation of safety measures. The image of the railway is mostly depending on safety, punctuality and security performance, therefore, it is essential to give top priority in these fronts.
He advised DRMs to see that maintenance of block are allowed and at the same time, it must also match the output.
There should be proper coordination between the service departments like Signal & Tele-communication, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering for proper upkeep of rolling stock, overhead electric supply and crew management.
All drivers and motormen should be given instructions to handle crises, if any. They must follow the safety rules strictly as per the safety manuals.
