Two patients died in two separate incidents of alleged medical negligence by two private nursing homes in the city.

The first incident had taken place at New Town Nursing Home situated at Baguiati early on Sunday morning in which a 25-year-old youth died of alleged medical negligence. The incident triggered tension among the staff of the private nursing home when the family members of the victim went on rampage ransacking a portion of the nursing home.

The victim, Sajjad Ali (25), a local resident, was taken to the nursing home on Friday after he was continuously bleeding from his mouth. After the preliminary treatment, the hospital authorities admitted the patient. At around 6.30 am, the family members of the victim got a telephone call from the nursing home saying that they need to put the patient on ventilator as his condition had deteriorated.

The family members of Ali told the hospital staff who rang them up that they have no problem in putting the patient on ventilation support if the situation demands. After hearing the news, the victim's family members rushed to the nursing home and found that the patient was already dead.

They alleged that the patient died at around 6 am after which the hospital authorities put the dead body on ventilation. The family members started protesting against the incident and an irate mob ransacked a portion of the nursing home. A huge contingent of police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

The family members of the victim also alleged that the CCTV footages of the nursing home also confirmed that the patient was put on ventilation after the patient had died. Ali's family members lodged a complaint in the local police station against the nursing home authorities.

In another incident, Bellona Nursing Home in Mominpur has been accused of administering wrong injection to an elderly person named Bholanath Dey and this had eventually led to his death.

The family members of Dey said that the patient was admitted to the nursing home with some kidney-related ailments. They alleged that their patient was administered an injection that was actually meant for another patient identified as Biswanath Dey who was undergoing treatment in the same nursing home. Police have started probe into the incidents.
