A woman was assaulted after she refused indecent proposals from a local resident at South 24 Parganas' Sonarpur area. On the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim, the police started an investigation.
The accused person, identified as Madhab Naskar escaped from the area as police started a raid to arrest him. Police learnt that the woman, who was returning from a musical programme, was allegedly abducted by Naskar, who was one of the organisers of the musical programme.
The accused reportedly made indecent proposals which she deniedstraightway. "The accused man allegedly beat her after being refused by her. Later he escaped from the spot," said a local resident. Police learnt that the woman came to enjoy the musical programme along with his son. It was at around 12 am when the programme ended and the spectators started to vacate the field for going back to their houses.
"The woman was returning home with his son by walking down the village path. As her legs were paining, she asked her son to bring the motor bike from their house. The son had gone to bring the motor bike from the house while the woman was waiting alone on the road," said a police officer.
"Naskar, the accused person, who allegedly was intoxicated, came there and forcibly took the woman to another place. He started to beat her when her proposal was turned down. In the meantime, the son arrived there and he had a tussle with the accused person," the officer added. "The victim's son tried to save her mother but he was also beaten up by the accused. Later, the local residents
came there to rescue mother-son duo. But the accused person had fled by then," the officer added.
