The members of the inquiry committee constituted by the state Health department on Wednesday took and recorded the statements of Ruby Roy, widow of Sanjay Roy at Swasthya Bhavan, relating to the treatment of Sanjay Roy.
Sanjay Roy was allegedly detained by the Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals authorities for not clearing dues. He later died at the SSKM Hospital. The private hospital has been accused of blocking the transfer of the patient, who was in a critical condition, to the SSKM Hospital despite of repeated pleas from Sanjay's family. The family members finally deposited a Fixed Deposit (FD) to the hospital to transfer the patient. Sanjay was admitted to the hospital with critical injuries after meeting with a road accident.
The members of the inquiry committee on Wednesday wanted to know from Ruby about the details of the treatment and when the hospital authorities first demanded money from them. They also wanted to know who were the doctors involved in the treatment, what diagnostic tests were performed on the patient, as per the version of the hospital. It was learnt that Ruby had narrated the series of incidents that happened after the admission of the victim to the hospital. She was also asked by the investigating team of the Health department about when the surgery was conducted on the patient. They also asked the victim's wife what the doctors told them at various points of time.
The inquiry committee will compare the documents collected from Ruby Roy and that gathered from the hospital on Tuesday. In the preliminary investigation, the team members of the inquiry committee found that the hospital had overcharged the patient and there were some negligence found in the treatment.
In another development, some senior officials of the Apollo Gleneagles Hospital went to the Phoolbagan police station and submitted documents that were sought from them by the investigating officers. The information, relating to details of the treatment, the doctors who attended to the patient and if the hospital had any videography of the operation theatre, were sought from them.
