Kolkata: The West Bengal branch of Indian Dental Association (IDA) has won the first prize in 'Best IDA Branch Dental Professional Group' category for spreading awareness on oral hygiene, on Sunday. The state branch was awarded by the Indian Society of Periodontology during its 42nd national conference in the city. The state chapter, like every year, observed "Oral Hygiene Day" to commemorate the birth anniversary of Late Dr G B Shankwalkar, a doyen of Indian Periodontics, by conducting several awareness programmes on August 1.
Oral Hygiene Day's aim is to spread awareness and stress on ways to tackle oral diseases. The IDA conducts campaigns from time to time. The programmes conducted aim at educating people on dental hygiene, organising community dental health camps, holding rallies and putting up awareness posters.
