In a bid to tackle any emergency situation in a better way, the state Disaster Management department is setting up an Emergency Operation Cell in the state secretariat, Nabanna.
The work to set up the cell in the second floor of the state secretariat has already started and it would take another few months to complete the construction work.
The Emergency Operation Cell will be having updated and modern gadgets using which, communication with all districts even in an emergency situation can take place smoothly.
The decision to set up such a cell has been taken up to ensure better management during any disaster in any part of the state. With completion of the setting up of the cell, the officials from Nabanna can easily monitor the situations in each and every district at the same time. Moreover, directions can also be given to all the cells simultaneously.
There would be a separate chamber in the Emergency Operation Cell from where, if necessary, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee can also give directions to administrative and concerned officials in districts in cases of emergency.
The Emergency Operation Cell will remain operational 24x7 and will be using updated technology. According to sources, district officials can easily be made understood that what exactly they have to do for better management of an emergency situation.
The Disaster Management department has also providing training to youth who will be working voluntarily during any emergency situation in the districts.
The initiative has been taken to ensure fast and better disaster management. Such volunteers are mainly from the districts where flood or flood-like situations happen almost every year.
At the same time, the department is also buying 1,000 speedboats that will be deployed in 13 districts. The speedboats will be bought at a cost of Rs 4 crore and the boats will be used for disaster management purpose.
