Kolkata: Without mentioning the name of any educational institution, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday once again criticised the move hampering the education of children. The statement came in the backdrop of the ongoing agitation outside GD Birla Centre for Education.
Banerjee said: "A ruckus has been created to hamper education of more students. Closure of factories, schools and colleges in the past 34 years had led to closure of the state itself."
"Today, some people are envious as Bengal is developing," she stated, adding that it shouldn't continue as it leaves a bad impact. It may be mentioned that the Chief Minister had said on Tuesday that she feels that the school should keep running so that education of small boys and girls does not get hampered.
She had also urged the management and administration of the schools to be more careful so that incidents like that of GD Birla do not take place again. She had also urged teachers to be more responsible and at the same time maintained that there shouldn't be any compromise in punishing the actual guilty.
Since Tuesday, a section of parents had been demanding reopening of the institution, considering that education of their wards would get hampered if the school remains closed for a long time.
This came at the time when BJP leader Rupa Ganguly had gone to the spot, despite the agitating parents seeking an apolitical movement.
Finally, the parents held a meeting with school authorities and the decision to reopen the school on Thursday has been taken after the principal was relieved from her duties on Wednesday.
