Kolkata: Mousumi Mukherjee (19), a resident of Durgapur was found charred to death at her house on Sunday morning.
The cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed by the police and the fire officials. According to the preliminary investigation the fire officials suspect that an electrical short circuit might have led to the fire. The victim was a resident of Amrai area of Durgapur.
According to the police the victim's marriage was supposed to take place on 26 February. Some local residents spotted smoke billowing out the victim's room. She had remained inside the room alone when the fire broke out early in the morning.
Local residents rushed to the spot but failed to rescue the victim as thick black smoke was coming out of her room. After being informed two fire tenders rushed to the spot.
The fire officials managed to enter into her room
managed to bring the victim out of the room. She was however declared brought dead after being taken to the hospital.
The cause of her death will only be confirmed after the post-mortem examination. The victim had received burn injuries in her body. The fire personnel doused the flame and brought the situation under control.
The preliminary investigation suggests that electrical short circuit might have triggered the fire. A detailed probe has been initiated both the fire officials and the senior police officers in this regard.
The police have initiated an unnatural death case in this connection and are trying to find out the exact reason. Police are also interrogating the family members of the victim in this connection.
