Drunk driver rams truck in front of Raj Bhavan gate

A speeding truck, driven by a drunk driver, collided with a road divider in front of Raj Bhavan's West Gate early on Wednesday morning. The truck was coming toward Red Road and heading to Dharmatala.

The driver, somehow, managed to escape from the spot before the police came. Some liquor bottles were found inside the truck.

It was a goods loaded truck, which was later seized by the police. Police brought a crane to pull the wrecked vehicle from the road. A case was lodged at Hare Street police station.

It should be recalled that similar incident happened at Eastern Metropolitan Bypass on Monday morning. However, police took stringent action against offenders of road accidents in different cases.

Conceptualised by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the state government started the 'Safe Drive, Save Life' campaign to stop rash driving on the roads. 

The drivers were given the message to drive safely and not to drink while driving. 

The Kolkata Police and state police spread the message among the common people.

However, in another incident, the driver of a private car lost his control over the wheel, hit an electric pole at Nadia's Chakdaha on Wednesday morning. Two persons including the driver died after the incident. Police said that Tapan Mondal was driving the car. Swapan Mondal was sitting beside him in the front seat. Police took them to College of Medicine & JNM Hospital. But they were declared brought dead.

A sand-loaded truck hit a motorbike near Bagmari at Salbani in Midnapore West on Monday night. The bike rider died on the spot. 
The person, who was riding pillion, received heavy injuries. 

He was taken to a nearby hospital. The local residents rampaged through the area protesting against the incident. Police later managed to control the situation.
