A dreaded criminal was shot at in front of his wife and daughter in his house at Domjur in Howrah by two of his close aides, following a dispute over profit shares.
A police officer said that the victim, Tapash Goloi received an injury below his right eye and was admitted to the hospital.
Police came to know after preliminary investigation, that the accused Ajay Shaw and his brother Bijay Shaw were close associates of Tapash, who was involved in different anti-social activities.
A few months ago, Tapash was arrested on charges of smuggling narcotics. He was behind bars for months and was released a few days ago.
Ajay and Bijay had visited his house thrice after he was released from the correctional home as Tapash had promised them to give a share of the profit of a deal that they had brokered with another person for smuggling narcotic substances.
On Wednesday afternoon, both of them went to his house and asked him to give them their share of profit of Rs 30,000. But, Tapash had refused to give the money and it led to the scuffle.
Tapash's wife intervened finding that the duo was beating him up and tried to rescue her husband. She started crying for help.
Anticipating that local people would come and catch them, Ajay opened fire. He fired two bullets at Tapash. Though the first bullet missed the target, the second one brushed passed the Tapash's cheek who received injuries below his right eye.
The police initiated a probe and found a footage of surveillance camera showing Ajay and Bijay fleeing the area after opening fire at Tapash.
The incident led to tension in the area. A police picket has been posted to ensure that the law and order situation does not deteriorate.
The police initiated a search for the accused and conducted search operation at different hideouts of the accused.
