The state committee of CPI(M) on Wednesday called the party's Rajya Sabha MP Ritabrata Bandyopadhyay and asked him to explain why he called up the HR of the company where the party supporter Sumit Talukdar who had criticised him for using costly wrist watch and pen works and asked the former to take steps against him.

The matter came to the fore after a media website ran the story. Bandopadhyay was seen wearing an Apple wrist watch and having a Mont Blanc pen.

It may be mentioned that the Politburo of the party had condemned Bandopadhyay's high-handedness and asked the state committee to reprimand him which in CPI(M)'s parlance is called censure.

A state committee leader said Bandopadhyay was criticised for his gesture. He said his arrogance was not liked by most of the state committee member but they had to keep mum as Bandopadhyay is close to former Chief Minister Buddahdeb Bhattacharya.
