The Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI) has again been accused of charging a patient almost double the amount of what was mentioned in the package during her admission to the hospital.

Sweta Sahu, a resident of Bhawanipore was admitted to the CMRI Hospital on February 23. She gave birth to a girl child the next day. It has been alleged that during the admission of the patient, the hospital authorities had mentioned that the patient's family members have to pay Rs 80,000 as the package. But during the release of the patient, the hospital had demanded an excess sum of Rs 79,000 from the patient's relatives.

When asked why the hospital authorities were demanding the extra money, they failed to provide any convincing answer to the patient's family members.

Sweta's family members have alleged that the hospital authorities had announced a package of Rs 80,000 for the treatment of the woman. But the hospital authorities had demanded an excess of Rs 5,000 from them after Sweta gave birth to a child. It has also been alleged that during the release of the patient, the CMRI had demanded another sum of Rs 74,000 from her family members in addition to what was mentioned in the package.

According to Sweta's family members, the hospital authorities have not given any satisfactory clarification on the excessive amount of bill that was charged. The family members told the hospital that they would not be able to pay the extra amount as it was mentioned in the package and the hospital authorities tried to mount pressure on the relatives to pay the extra money. However, the hospital authorities were not available for comments.

On Sunday, CMRI was accused of overcharging a patient who was admitted to the hospital two weeks ago after consuming acid.

The family members of the victim, Rupam Pal, alleged that the hospital authorities made an excessive bill. It was alleged that the amount of the bill has gone up to Rs 3.15 lakh in the past two weeks. The victim's relatives claimed that there were some irregularities in the bill as it was demanded by the hospital authorities.
