CM instructs ministers to stay vigilant during Shivratri, Holi

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee urged all her ministers to take necessary steps to avoid any untoward incidents in their respective districts during the two major festivals of Shivaratri and Holi.

Banerjee directed the ministers during the Cabinet meeting that was held on Tuesday.

It is learnt that Banerjee asked the ministers to be present in their respective districts during the festivals, mainly on Holi.

Since there had been attempts to create communal violence in certain parts of the state, the ministers have been asked to be in touch with the grassroot levels to know if anyone is trying to create any problems in the state.

According to the sources, the ministers have been asked to remain vigilant so that no one can spread rumours to create problems during the festivals.

As sporadic tensions or law and order troubles lead to harassment of common people, the Chief Minister directed the ministers to take necessary steps to avert even small incidents in their respective areas.

Senior officials were also asked to maintain proper vigil so that no untoward incidents take place during the festivals. The police have also been directed to take prompt action to bring situation under control as and when they receive information about someone or a group of people "purposely" trying to stir up trouble.

It may be mentioned that Banerjee had said on Monday in a programme at Netaji Indoor Stadium that she would eradicate the politics of vandalism that might affect the development of the state.

Criticising the "politics of vandalism" she had said: "I will not allow it anymore and Bengal is now progressing, so no one should try to cause any sort of trouble."

She had also attacked BJP saying that Delhi is threatening them almost every day, but Bengal is not that weak.
