Seven persons were injured when a clash broke out between two groups following a scuffle over the possession of a waterbody in Alampur area of Burdwan.
Some of the injured persons are stated to be in critical condition.
All the injured victims have been admitted to the Burdwan Medical College and Hospital. It was learnt that two
groups had clashed with each other.
The groups were quarrelling for a long time over the possession of the waterbody claiming that it belonged to them. One of the groups lodged a complaint at the local police station against the other on late Tuesday night.
Police called up the two group members in a meeting to settle the issue. But the situation did not improve. The members of the group that lodged a complaint in the police station were allegedly attacked by the other group members.
This had caused fresh trouble on Wednesday morning when the two groups clashed again. It was alleged that they hurled bombs at each other causing serious injuries to several people.
The group that lodged the complaint in the police station alleged that the opponents had mixed poison in the water of the pond as a
result of which the fishes were found dead.
After being informed a huge contingent of police force rushed to the spot but initially, they failed to bring the situation under control.
A special force was later deployed which dispersed the mob. Police cordoned off the entire area after the incident and normalcy was restored gradually. Police picket has been set up as tension still prevailed in the village.
