Some parts of the city have witnessed moderate rainfall on Wednesday morning leading to traffic congestion in these areas.
The Alipore Meteorological office has predicted some more rainfall in the Western and the coastal districts including the city in the next 24 hours due to a depression that has formed over the Odisha coastal areas.
According to a senior official of the Alipore Met office, the coastal districts may receive moderate to heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours. The city may also receive rainfall as per the prediction of the weather office.
According to the Met office, the city on Wednesday received rainfall in various parts due to Stratocumulus cloud hovering over the city's sky. There was traffic congestion in several parts of the city particularly in Behala and Taratala where construction works of Metro projects are going on.
Vehicles were stranded in queues for a long time in some parts of the city as there were waterlogging in the streets on Wednesday morning. Senior traffic police officers brought the situation under control.
Traffic movement was slow in some other parts of the city also due to rain. In many parts, people have been facing serious problems while commuting from one place to another due to poor condition of roads as they have developed cracks due to rain. Some stretches of Diamond Harbour Road are in a bad shape.
Roads often develop cracks during this time of the year due to prolonged rain. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) maintains the roads from time to time to fill up the cracks that are created on the roads due to heavy rain.
