Kolkata: The state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) busted a fake medical certificate racket from the Gopal Nagar area of North 24-Parganas and arrested one person for his alleged involvement in the incident.
The investigators have come to know that the racket used to prepare the fake medical certificates in a shop situated at Gopal Nagar area of Bongaon. The persons who ran the racket used to demand anything around Rs 12,000 to Rs 25,000 from each candidate. The police came to know in the course of investigation that in many cases the candidates did not know that there was no existence of the institution by the name of which the certificates had been issued. Many would have thought that institution is legal and there would be no problem if they get a certificate from this institution.
The CID officer raided the shop where these fake certificates were produced and seized many such fake certificates and arrested one person, identified as Lankeswar Mahajan, in this connection.
The investigating officers are carrying out searches to nab the other culprits who used to operate the racket. Police also came to know that apart from medical certificates, some other fake certificates were also produced.
Police came to know that the main kingpin in the incident, Parimal Biswas, has been absconding.
A team of CID had arrested two persons from New Delhi four days ago who used to issue fake medical certificates to the candidates in lieu of huge money. Police have started a detailed probe to know the names of the other persons involved in the fake racket operating from North 24 Parganas. They were conducting raids to nab the culprits.
