Body of student found stuck on iron rods of building in Beliaghata

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a first year college student whose body was found on the iron gate of a multi-storey building on Khoda Gange road in Beliaghata where the victim used to stay with his mother.

Police said the victim identified as Asutosh Mondal (18) used to live at a rented flat situated on the fourth floor of 'Ashirbad Apartment' with his mother and grandmother nearly six months.

The locals heard a loud thud and rushed to the spot to see his body on the iron rods of the gate.

The locals removed him from the gate and rushed him to NRS Medical College and Hospital in a taxi. The patient succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

The victim was a student of a well known college in the city.

He came to the city to study from Mallarpur in Birbhum.

Police said the incident took place at around 3.50 pm.

According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that Mondal might have fallen from the balcony situated on the fourth floor

of the building.

They are yet to confirm if the victim had committed suicide or there was any foul play behind his death.

Police did not find a suicide note from the room of the victim. Cops are interrogating his mother and other family members in this connection to know what might have led to the incident.

They are not ruling out the possibility of the victim being involved in a love affair. A detailed probe has been initiated.

The body has been sent for an autopsy. It was also learnt that forensic experts will visit the place on Monday to carry out the investigation. Police are waiting for the report which might throw some light on the death of the student.
