Mystery shrouds the death of a 22-year-old youth whose body was found near the railway track between Rishra and Konnagar stations late on February 23 night.
Police said that there were several injury marks on the body of the victim, Sayar Kar who had completed BCA from a private college in Salt Lake. The victim's father, Ratan Kumar Kar lodged a complaint against Surajit Banik and Vishal Baitha, victims' friends, with the Government Railway Police on Sunday following which the police have started an investigation.
On February 23, the victim's birthday, he went out to Mahesh under Serampore in Hooghly with his friend Surajit who came to his house on his bike. Police are investigating if it was an incident of suicide or there was any foul play behind the incident.
Victim's father told the police that Sayar left their house with Surajit on latter's bike. Both of them returned home in the afternoon and had their lunch in the house. In the afternoon, the victim had received a phone call from a girl at Cantonment who is common friend to both the boys. The victim left the house after receiving the phone call saying that he would return home in the evening. The body was later found near the railway track late night on the same day.
Police came to know in the interrogation that the victim went to Dum Dum. In the evening, when the family members called him on his number, he told them that he was in a train and was coming home. Later in the evening, his phone got switched off.
They repeatedly called on his number but his phone remained switched off.
When victim's father called up Surajit he told him that he had got down at Bali Halt station while Sayar was going to Dum Dum but he did not receive any call thereafter. The victim's father got the news of the recovery of a body the next morning after he had lodged the complaint in the police station. Police are interrogating the victim's friends and are attempting to know if there was any triangular love relation between the two youth and the girl who called up the victim on his birthday.
Police are examining the call list of the victim and also seized the mobile phone of Surajit for investigation.
