Kolkata: A woman was found dead at Katlia Sasthitala at Domjur in Howrah on Sunday night.
The deceased woman aged about 25 years was found naked in a bush. According to a source, the woman was missing since Sunday afternoon and her family couldn't find her after desperately searching for her in their locality. When they were about to approach the police, they came to know from a few local residents that a woman was found lying unconscious in a nearby bush.
They rushed to the spot and found the missing woman was lying in the bush. Domjur police station was informed. The police confirmed that the woman was dead.
Her body was taken to Domjur hospital for the official confirmation of her death and later it was sent for autopsy.
According to the police, apparently no external injuries were found on the body. A source informed that the woman was a ragpicker and had some mental illness.
Local residents alleged that she was raped and murdered.
The police initiated a murder case on the basis of the complaint lodged by one of her family members but the surgeon who conducted her autopsy said there were no signs that indicated that she was raped.
An inspection of the spot, where she was found, didn't substantiate the allegation of rape made by a few local residents.
A few local residents claimed that woman's clothes and the slippers were found at a distance from her body. Some even claimed to have seen ligature marks on her neck. However, the police dismissed the allegation of strangulation.
A labourer, identified as Choton Rai, was murdered at Howrah Fish Market in Golabari on Monday.
On Monday morning, a man, informed the police that a labourer, identified as Surender Rai, told him that he assaulted Choton and dumped his body inside a refrigerator.
Police officers from Golabari police station went to the spot and recovered the body. Cops came to know that both Choton and Surinder had some old rivalry belonged to the same village in Bihar.
A source informed that a few more persons could be involved in the case. One person was arrested in this connection on Monday afternoon. The police are looking for Surinder.
