Kolkata: Anuj Sharma, a 1991 batch IPS officer has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, replacing Rajeev Kumar who was transferred and posted as ADG & IGP, Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Sharma, a Lucknow University post-graduate in Economics, was recently posted as the ADG & IGP (Law and Order). Bengal government on Tuesday reshuffled a host of other top ranking officers both in the city and West Bengal police.
According to a rule of the Election Commission (EC), any IPS or IAS officer, who has completed three years of service in a post, should be transferred before an impending election.
The Kolkata Police Special Commissioner II, Jayanta Kumar Basu, a 1991 batch IPS, has been transferred and posted as Director, Directorate of Economic Offences Wing in the rank of ADG.
Siddh Nath Gupta, a 1992 batch IPS who was recently posted as ADG & IGP, IB, West Bengal, has got his present posting as ADG & IGP (Law and Order), West Bengal.
Howrah city Police Commissioner Tanmay Ray Choudhury was also transferred and has been appointed as DIG of Burdwan range. Sanjay Singh has been appointed as ADG & IGP, South Bengal. He was recently posted as ADG & IGP, CID. Singh is a 1992 batch IPS officer who replaced Niraj Kumar Singh, a 1994 IPS officer, who has been shunted to the post of ADG & IGP, IB, West Bengal. Niraj Kumar Singh replaces Gupta.
K Jayaraman, a 1997 batch IPS, who was posted as Additional CP IV, Kolkata, in the rank of IG has become the IGP (Modernisation & Coordination), West Bengal, replacing Saroj Kumar Gazmer who has been posted as IGP, Welfare, West Bengal. Gazmer is a 1997 batch IPS. Vishal Garg has been given the charge of Howrah city Police Commissioner replacing Tanmay Ray Chaudhuri who has been made DIG, Burdwan Range.
Md Imran Wahab, a 2004 batch IPS, has been made the new Special IG of Correctional Services while Rashid Munir Khan will be the new SP of Baruipur police district. Khan had been recently serving as Commandant of State Armed Police, 2 Battalion. Parul Kush Jain, a 2004 batch IPS, recently posted as Joint CP (Organisation), Kolkata, becomes the new DIG, Training, West Bengal. Ajoy Prasad who was the SP, Baruipur police district has been transferred to the post of Commandant of State Armed Police, 2 Battalion.
