Kolkata: The state Panchyat and Rural Development department has appointed administrators in the Panhayat Samities and Zilla Parishads where candidates have won uncontested.
The decision was anno-unced by the department on Thursday. The decision has been taken as the Supreme Court has not yet given interim order in the case relating to the issue of candidates winning seats without contest.
In absence of the boards, development work could not be carried out in 34% seats. The administrators will work till the Supreme Court gives any interim order in the matter.
Trinamool Congress candidates have won in 34% seats in the three-tier Panchayat election without contest.
The Opposition alleged that because of deteriorating law and order situation, they could not file candidates for 34% seats. The single bench of the High Court rejected the appeal, but the division bench had issued a stay order in the matter.
Challenging the order, the state Election Commission moved the Supreme Court. The court upheld the division bench's order and instructed the State Election Commission not to include the names of those who have won uncontested in the gazette.
