Accidents claim one life and leave two injured

Kolkata: A youth was killed and two persons suffered injuries while riding motorcycles in two separate road accidents here on Saturday night.

According to police, in both the accidents, the riders had violated traffic regulations and risked their lives while driving their vehicles.

On Saturday, around 1:20 am, a scooter skidded off from the road on Biren Roy Road (East) in Behala.

The rider identified as Satinath Mahato suffered injuries on the head. As the area was deserted, no one noticed him during the time of accident. After a while, some passerby noticed Mahato lying unconscious and informed the police.

Police personnel from Behala police station immediately reached the spot and rushed Mahato to the SSKM Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Mahato was 25-year-old.

After noticing the damage on his scooter and nature of injuries, police officers concluded that Mahato might be driving the scooter at a high speed and lost control near the crossing on Roy Bahadur Road and James Long Sarani.

In another incident, a bike rider and the pillion rider suffered head injury after they met an accident at the crossing on Dr Rahaman Road and Biswas Para Road in Charu Market area. According to local residents, around 1:30 am on Saturday night, the victims were riding the bike at a high speed. The bike skidded off the road and both the riders identified as Somnath Das and Rajib Ali Mallick suffered multiple injuries on their bodies and on the heads. They were allegedly riding the bike without helmet. Both of them were immediately rushed to M R Bangur Hopsital. Later, they were shifted to SSKM Hospital for better treatment. In both the cases, police seized the two wheelers involved in the accidents.
