Kolkata: Durjay Sangha, a local club in Jadavpur, has proposed to install CCTV cameras after five puppies were found dead in the locality on Tuesday night.

The police recovered the carcasses and sent them for post-mortem.

The result of the post-mortem examination is yet to be received by the police. Local residents apprehend that the puppies have been poisoned to death. Partha Ghosh, a local resident and member of the club, spotted the carcasses on Tuesday night. He shared his experience on the social media and reported it to the police. He also lodged an FIR with Jadavpur police station.

He said the police should bring the miscreants to book, who had poisoned the puppies. The club has proposed to install CCTV cameras at its own cost to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future. Attacks on stray dogs particularly puppies have become a major menace.

Some months ago, nurses of Nilratan Sarkar Medical College Hospital were found involved in killing puppies. Animal lovers in the city felt that two nurses had been pulled up to hush up the matter.

The errant nurses have been inducted in the service.

They said stringent laws are required to punish people involved in killing stray dogs and administration, particularly the police should be more sensitive.
