A 40-year-old woman was beaten to death by her elder brother and father following a property-related dispute at Kolaghat on Sunday night.

The woman reportedly argued with her elder brother and father over possession of a property.

The heated altercation suddenly turned into fight and the elder brother of the woman started to beat her in front of their father.

The woman ran towards her father for help but her father surprisingly kicked her there. The woman, a heart patient, succumbed to the injuries.
The neighbours took her to a local hospital but the doctors declared her brought dead.

Police said, the deceased Namita Bera left her in-laws' house after some dispute with her husband.

She came to her father's house at Kolaghat's Bhogpur a few days ago.

On Sunday night, she raised the property issue with her elder brother Pradip Bera. The discussion started peacefully but Namita and Pradip later got involved in a tiff. Pradip started to beat Namita, who was a high blood sugar patient and had cardiac problem as well. Namita ran towards her father but her father kicked on her belly.

She fell on the ground, started to shake and she later died there.

The neighbours, who rushed there to stop the fight, saw the woman lying on the floor. She was sent to hospital but the doctors declared her brought dead.

In another incident, a father killed his 13-year-old daughter and committed suicide. The incident took place at Siliguri's Pradhannagar on Sunday night.

A local resident said that the accused, Shukra Hansda (56) was a mentally challenged person. He used to attack the neighbours also.

On that night, he hacked his daughter to death and committed suicide by hanging himself from a bamboo stick. Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem.
