Kolkata: The body of a 30-year-old man was found inside his rented room in a two-storeyed building in Baguiati on Wednesday evening.
Though police are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind his death, suspect that drug over dose has led to the incident.
Police said the victim, Srij Babi Kutti, had started staying in the rented house after bagging a job at a private hospital off Eastern Metropolitan Bypass.
He used to work at the medicine department of the hospital and he had been staying in the same place for the past one-and-a-half year. He used to share his room with one of his friends.
His roommate returned on Wednesday evening and knocked on the door as it was locked from inside. His roommate thought that Kutti had fallen asleep and that is the reason why he was not opening the door.
He even called up on his mobile phone that remained unanswered. Finally, the youth informed the landlord, who stays on the first floor of the building.
The landlord and roommate broke open a window pane and peeped inside the room only to find the victim lying in front of the closed door of the room.
They informed police. Police from Baguiati police station reached the spot and broke open the door. They initially thought that he was in an unconscious state. But he was declared brought dead when taken to hospital.
A senior police officer said two empty bottles of medicine and a syringe were found from inside the room. The police feel that he had taken excessive drug, which resulted in his death but they are waiting for the post-mortem report to reach a conclusion.
The victim's family members and private hospital, where he used to work, have been informed.
