3 sustain serious burn injuries after hydrogen gas cylinder explodes

Kolkata: Three persons sustained serious injuries when a hydrogen gas cylinder which was inside the car suddenly exploded.
The incident took place near Central Metro station on Sunday afternoon. The locals who were around the place heard a loud sound. Many initially considered it to be a bomb blast and started running from one side to the other.
Those who sustained injuries are Gopal Halder, his father Tulsi Haldar and Sanjay Saha. According to the locals, Saha was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident. Saha, a resident of Gorachand Ghosh Lane, sustained head injuries while Tulsi Halder received serious burn injuries.
Gopal Halder also received burn injuries. All the injured persons were immediately rushed to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital where they were currently undergoing treatment.
According to hospital sources, Tulsi Halder and Saha are stated to be serious. They have been kept under constant monitoring. The eye witnesses said following the explosion there was a fire on the rear seat of the car and the area was soon covered with smoke. Three fire tenders swung into action. The incident led to traffic congestion in the area. Senior police officers rushed to the spot and cordoned off the entire area. The officers collected samples from the car a portion of which was badly damaged in the incident.
According to preliminary investigation, the cops suspect that the victims were carrying a hydrogen gas cylinder on the rear seat of the vehicle.
