3 persons held for shooting at brothers

Howrah police on Wednesday arrested three persons from Liluah for their alleged involvement in a shootout that took place at Dharmatala area of Howrah couple of days ago.

According to the police, all the three accused were local criminals and a few cases are pending against them at different police stations.
On Sunday night, these three accused shot two local businessmen over an extortion issue. The victims are Deepak Singh and Pappu Singh. Both are brothers and have suffered critical bullet injuries in the incident. Police are yet to divulge the names of the accused. In the course of investigation the cops came to know that the miscreants would assemble at Liluah. Acting on the specific information, a team of police officers reached the place and arrested the accused. It was learnt that the accused admitted to their crime in the face of prolonged interrogation.
On last Sunday night, Deepak and Pappu were shot by some miscreants after the victims refused to pay the extortion money. The victims are undergoing treatment at different hospitals. Locals alleged that Rintu Singh and Akash Singh had demanded an extortion of Rs 2 lakh from Deepak and his younger brother who ran a mobile shop at Dharmatala area of Malipanchghora four days prior to the incident. Deepak refused to pay. On Sunday, Rintu and his associates assembled in Dharmatala area with arms and bombs. When Deepak refused, they ransacked his shop and shot at the two brothers.
