Kolkata: In a bid to further improve the public transport system, the state government is going to introduce 165 more buses on Tuesday.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will flag off the buses from outside Nabanna. Sovan Chatterjee, the state Fire and Emergency Services minister, along with Suvendu Adhikari, the state Transport minister, will be present.
It may be mentioned that the Chief Minister had given direction to the state Transport department during administrative review meetings in the districts to initiate bus services from different points.
Following the instruction of the Chief Minister, the state Transport department has taken necessary steps and 165 buses on 77 different routes including Nabanna to Baruipur, Kulpi to Kolkata, Jharkhali to BBD Bag via Canning, Ballykhal to Botanical Garden and Joynagar to Mograhat have been initiated.
It also includes buses on different routes in North Bengal including Behrampore to Dhupguri and Cooch Behar to Haldibari.
The state government has taken several steps to improve the connectivity with tourist spots.
On Tuesday, there will be bus services connecting tourist spots including Bishnupur, Gadiara and Tarapith.
There will be bus services from Kolkata to Bishnupur, Gadiara and Arambagh
as well.
From the same programme, a total of 117 fire tenders and pumps will also be flagged off. It may be mentioned that in the past six years the state government has taken several steps and improved the infrastructure needed for fire fighting. Now, with 117 fire tenders getting added to the existing fleet, it will be an immense boost for the firefighters.
